It has all of Kanye’s best qualities: the soul sample, the beat, and the experimental. “Gone” is a track where every element is working for the experiences. There are people that only listen to the lyric or only deconstruct the production. (Did you notice the piano starches during Cam’ron verse at 2:04?) These subtle touches only add to the experience. There are parts of the production I’m still finding today. You are not doing yourself or the song justice if you are not listening to this track on a good sound system or with good headphones. “Gone” is a song that anyone who loves music can appreciate. It is a wonder why these arrangements have not happened before, and now it is even harder to imagine a Kanye production without them. Kanye takes elements that one: work well independently and two: don’t normally get applied with hip-hop, and then combines them together seamlessly. Through his career, Kanye has brought in new elements to expand his music. “Gone” shows the versatility of hip-hop and the genius of Kanye West.

The strings sound great alone but even better when they are working to together. There is a good mix of long notes held in the middle.

“Gone” is the best product of his collaborative effort with Kanye.

Jon Brion was a sufficient part of Late Registration his strings can be heard all throughout the album and he is credited as a co-producer on eleven of the albums tracks. What is left: the banging beat and the excellent string arrangement by Jon Brion. It is very interesting what Kanye does, the Redding sample is present throughout all of Kanye’s first verse, used to a lesser degree in Cam’ron’s verse and completely gone by Consequence’s verse. Not many songs would use a high profile sample like Otis Redding’s “It’s Too Late” and then have that not even be the focal aspect of the song – that’s what Kanye did here. Listen carefully, The Redding sample is not around the whole track, another interesting aspect of “Gone.”ĭifferent elements of the production come and go throughout the progress of the track. Redding’s vocals are used as a timely highlight and his keys accent the beat so well. The Otis Redding sample is the perfect way to open the track. As soon as it drops, expect to bob your head non-stop. There are so many things going on, listeners might miss something at first. Lyrics aside, the production and construction of the track are stellar. Nothing better demonstrates this than “Gone.” It is not hard to see why many hip-hop heads say this is the best track on the album.Ĭonsequence, Cam’ron and Kanye all have standout verses, with Kanye having one of the best performances ever. Kanye’s second album, Late Registration was a sprawling project that had Kanye using more tools leading to an album with an expansive, larger sound than The College Dropout.

It has an excellent sample, the drums are addictive, the string arrangement is genius and the lyrics all combine to make one of Kanye’s best songs.

Now I’ll show how the TalentMaker and Optigan samples were used to create Phone Call, note that the song uses the TalentMaker samples but I’ll also show how to use the Optigan samples from GForce M-Tron Pro too, as these are a little easier to get hold of.Can we talk about Kanye West’s “ Gone,” the closing track from Late Registration? This track has so many things going for it sometimes it’s baffling. The album has also sold over 2 million copies. The album received positive reviews and earned West his third Grammy Award for 'Best Rap Album'. It was released on Septemby Roc-A-Fella Records. It produced five singles, Cant Tell Me Nothing, Stronger, Good Life, Flashing Lights, and Homecoming. – Michel Gondry (director of Eternal Sunshine) Phone Call (cont.) Graduation is the third solo album by American hip-hop recording artist Kanye West. So it was great to collaborate with him.” So you had the nostalgia of my grandfather’s shop. So when you hear this very sad guitar that we use a lot that’s. And I hadn’t heard or seen one in 30 years. My father, who is the son-in-law of my grandfather, took over his keyboard shop and he started to sell electronic synthesizers and organs and he had this very weird synthesizer called The Talentmaker. “It’s funny because you were talking about my grandfather inventing that keyboard, Jon has some old keyboards. Pricey but there’s some really rare stuff, including the elusive TalentMaker samples. M-Tron Pro comes with the Classic Guitar samples a the Optitron expansion has some other great stuff. GForce M-Tron Pro / Optitron Expansion: a very exhaustive selection of Optigan samples but missing TalentMaker samples. Note that I’m using samples of these discs. The main optical discs that I’ll look at are Classic Guitar for the Optigan and Guitar in 4/4 for the TalentMaker. The latter was meant to improve the sound quality of the Optigan and includes extra chord buttons that the Optigan had been missing.

There were several instruments related to the Optigan, such as the Vako Orchestron and the Chilton TalentMaker.
